Čech a kolo? Němec a kolo? Úplně jiný vztah, řeklo by se až donedávna. Postoj Čechů k cyklistice a cykloturistice se ale začíná výrazně měnit. „Hele, cyklista!“ vykřikl můj německý kamarád po třech dnech v Praze, „první cyklista, kterého tu vidím!“ Zdání může klamat, obzvlášť v Praze, protože zdejší extrémní nedostatek cyklostezek stěží někoho na kolo vyláká. I když se město snaží, situace pro cyklisty je v centru stále ještě nebezpečná. Stačí se ale dostat na nějaký větší kousek zeleně, popřípadě kousek za Prahu a cyklisty potkáváte při pěkném počasí doslova na každém kroku. O zvýšeném zájmu svědčí i účast na tradiční pražské cyklojízdě, kterou pořádá sdružení Automat. Dvakrát do roka se na pár hodin uzavřou největší dopravní tepny hlavního města a jsou k dispozici pouze cyklistům, kteří tak mají šanci orodovat za lepší pražskou cyklistickou síť a přátelštější prostředí vůči jedincům brázdícím (nejen) Prahu na kole.

I mimo Prahu cyklostezek v posledních letech výrazně přibylo, přesto se to s naším západním sousedem nedá srovnat. Ostatně cyklojízda má v Německu mnohem delší tradici než u nás: takzvané hvězdicové cyklojízdy (Fahrradsternfahrt) se v Německu, zpočátku jen západním, pořádaly už od 70. let. Největší z nich se každoročně koná v Berlíně u příležitosti světového dne životního prostředí (5. června). Té poslední, v roce 2010, se zúčastnilo na 200 000 cyklistů.

Berlínská cyklojízda se od pražské liší velikostí i schématem – v Berlíně je mnoho různých tras, které se podle hvězdicového obrazce postupně spojí a setkají všechny u Braniborské brány, v Praze je pro všechny cyklisty trasa jen jediná – hlavní myšlenka ale zůstává stejná: ukázat, že kolo je zábavný a rychlý dopravní prostředek, šetrný k životnímu prostředí, zkrátka výhodný v mnoha ohledech, ale potřebuje dostatek prostoru a bezpečí, kterých se mu prozatím ne všude dostává.

A Czech and a bike? A German and a bike? A completely different relationship? Not any more! The attitude of Czechs toward cycling and cyclo tourism is changing clearly. „See, a cyclist!“ shouted my German friend after three days in Prague, „the first cyclist I can see here!“ Appearances can be deceptive –  especially in Prague, because the extreme lack of cycloroutes can hardly attract anyone to ride by bike. Although the city tries to make the situation better, the centre remains still very dangerous for cyclists. But in Prague parks and forests, possibly in the neighbourhood of Prague you can meet cyclist wherever you go in case it’s good weather. The increasing interest is showed and proved by the turnout on a traditional Prague cycloride organised by the Automat Association as well. Two times a year all Prague arteries are closed for a few hours and only cyclist have them at disposal, so they get chance put in a good word for better and friendlier cycling Prague.

Outside of Prague is the number of cycloroutes higher and higher as well, but it still cannot be compared with our west neighbour. Actually, the tradition of cyclorides in Germany is much longer than in the Czech Republic: so called stellate cyclorides (Fahrradsternfahrt) are organised, originally only in the West Germany, since seventies. The biggest one takes place in Berlin on the occasion of International Environment Day (June 5^th). 200 000 cyclists took part in the last one in 2010.

Berlin cycloride differs from the Prague one in the size and in the mode as well – in Berlin there are many of routes, which are step by step unifing and meeting at the Brandenburg Gate; in Prague there is one cycloroute for everyone – but the main idea is the same: to show, that the bike is amusing and fast way of transport, saving the environment, simply advantegous in many ways, but it needs enough space and security, what is not the situation of everywhere.

Ein Tscheche und das Fahrrad? Ein Deutscher und das Fahrrad? Eine ganz unterschiedliche Beziehung, würde man bis vor kurzem sagen. Die Situation ändert sich allerdings. „Guck, ein Fahrradfahrer!“ rief einer meiner deutschen Freunde nach drei Tagen in Prag aus, „der erste Fahrradfahrer, den ich hier sehe!“ Der Schein kann trügen – besonders in Prag, weil der hiesige extreme Mangel an Fahrradwegen kaum jemanden lockt, Fahrrad zu fahren. Obwohl sich die Stadt bemüht, ist die Situation im Zentrum für Fahrradfahrer immer noch sehr gefährlich. Es reicht aber in einen Park oder Wald zu kommen bzw. in die unmittelbare Umgebung von Prag, und man begegnet Fahrradfahrern auf Schritt und Tritt. Von größerem Interesse zeugt auch die Teilnahme auf der traditionellen Prager Fahrradfahrt, die der Automat Verein organisiert. Zweimal im Jahr werden die Verkehrsadern der Hauptstadt für ein paar Stunden geschlossen und nur für Fahrradfahrer zur Verfügung gestellt, die so die Chance bekommen, ihre Fürsprache für ein besseres und freundlicheres Prag für Fahrradfahrer darzulegen.

Auch außerhalb Prags gibt es immer mehr Fahrradwege, man kann das aber mit dem westlichen Nachbarn nicht vergleichen. Die Fahrradfahrt hat übrigens in Deutschland viel längere Tradition als in Tschechien: so genannte Fahrradsternfahrten werden in Deutschland, zuerst nur im westlichen Teil, schon seit den siebziger Jahren organisiert. Die größte findet alljährlich in Berlin zum Welttag der Umwelt (5. Juni) statt. An der letzten in 2010 haben 200.000 Fahrradfahrer teilgenommen.

Die Berliner Fahrradfahrt unterscheidet sich von der Prager in der Größe sowie im Schema – in Berlin gibt es mehrere Strecken, die sich nach und nach in einer verbinden und am Ende am Brandenburger Tor treffen; in Prag gibt es nur eine Strecke für alle – die Hauptidee bleibt aber gleich: zeigen, dass das Fahrrad ein unterhaltsames sowie schnelles Verkehrsmittel ist, auch zur Umwelt sparsam, kurzum in mehreren Aspekten vorteilhaft, aber es braucht genug Raum und Sicherheit, was leider noch nicht überall zur Verfügung ist.
