Differences between studies in Slovakia and Czech republic
Last ten years more and more young students from Slovakia leave their mother country and they’re going to study to Czech republic. Why are they doing this and what can studies in Czech republic offer to them? Those question I’ve asked profesor Jozef Žovinec who has experienced studies at two Czech universities and one study at Slovak university.
You have completed the studies in Czech and in Slovakia. In which specific schools it was?
I’ve graduated my first study in VŠOŠ Zlín in Bonton film ateliers, then I countinued in Baťa University. There I’ve studied animation. After graduation those studies in Czech I came back to Slovakia and I’ve studied graphic design in Banská Bystrica.
Why have you decided to study in Czech republic?
I the first row it was the specialization what has decided. Animation and film making has a long tradition in Czech republic. This sector has better financial donation as well. The univerzities and aslo teachers are more motivated.
Could you tell us some teachers who had influenced you most?
Certainly I can tell about Liana Hamzová- an academic painter. She knew how to motivated us and helped us. Next person, who I’d like to mention about is Karel Trlica who has been working on famous czech animation movie Bob and Bobek. With him was working Ivan Heitzman. He is very charizmatic teacher, great animator who was also creating an animated serial A je to!
Why did you come back to Slovakia? What did studies at Academy of fine arts in Banská Bystrica bring to you?
The main reason was lack of money for finishing my studies in Czech. In Banská Bystrica there is a big teoretical aspect which form the students most. We used to study philosophy of art. I’d like to mention prof. Alená Vrbanová. She is a great kunst historian and lecturer of philosophy.
