What was the biggest event for young believers during summer 2011?

 

World Youth Days - a great meeting of young people from all over the world gathered around the Vicar of Christ, the Pope. It took place in the capital city of Spain - Madrid, 16th - 21st August.

 

Pope Benedict XVI. came in Madrid to meet with almost two million young people, to answer questions of curious teenagers, to encourage the youth to be witnesses of faith. 

 

The previous Holy Father Blessed John Paul II. founded this event in 1984. This meeting has been realised every third year since then.

 

Young people come, change their experiences (also e-mail addresses), make new friends in the streets, meet with Pope and experience something new in their lives - the existence of God.

 

The weather was really hot and sunny. Madrid is a wonderful city which offers tourists many historical sites - Puerta de Alcalá, Almudena Cathedral, Retiro Park, Royal Palace, squares - Plaza Mayor, Plaza de Cibéles, museums - Museo del Prado, Museo Reina Sofia...The pilgrims had free entry so queues were quite long but it wasn´t problem. There was a good mood everywhere, people were singing, talking and taking photos.

 

"I have met many interesting people, known new cultures, seen wonderful things - dances from Angola, the Holy Father, heard songs from different parts of world...I really liked it!"said Klára (21), a student from Slovakia.

 


Generally, this great event changes life of everyone who joins. So, the next opportunity is WYD which will be held in Rio de Janeiro in 2013.

Atmosféra v Madride

Čo bolo najväčšou udalosťou tohto leta pre mladých veriacich?

 

Svetové Dni Mládeže - veľkolepé stretnutie mladých z celého sveta s Kristovým nástupcom, pápežom. Uskutočnilo sa v hlavnom meste Španielska, v Madride 16. -  21. augusta. 

 

Pápež, Benedikt XVI. prišiel do Madridu, aby sa stretol s takmer dvoma miliónmi mladých ľudí, aby zodpovedal ich zvedavé otázky a aby ich povzbudil, aby sa nebáli byť skutočnými svedkami viery.

 

Predošlý pápež, blahoslavený Ján Pavol II. založil toto veľké stretnutie mladých so Svätým Otcom v roku 1984. Odvtedy sa uskutočňuje každý tretí rok.

 

Mladí ľudia prídu, vymenia si svoje zážitky,skúsenosti (takisto aj e-mail adresy), spriatelia sa s novými ľuďmi, stretnú sa so Svätým Otcom, zažijú niečo úplne nové v ich životoch - zažijú Boha.


Počasie bolo veľmi horúce a slnečné. Madrid je úžasné mesto, ktoré ponúka turistom mnoho historických pamiatok - Puerta de Alcalá, katedrála Almudena, Retiro Park, Royal Palace, námestí - Plaza Mayor, Plaza de Cibéles, múzeí - Museo del Prado, Museo Reina Sofia... Pútnici mali voľný vstup všade, a tak sa vytvárali dlhé rady. Nebol to však žiadny problém. Všade vládla dobrá nálada, ľudia spievali, rozprávali a fotili sa.

 

"Stretla som mnoho zaujímavých ľudí, spoznala som nové kultúry, videla som skvelé veci - tance z ďalekej Angoly, Svätého Otca, počula som piesne z rozličných kútov sveta...Veľmi sa mi to páčilo!"povedala Klára (21), študentka zo Slovenska.

 

Vo všeobecnosti toto úžasné podujatie zmení život každému, kto sa zapojí. Takže najbližšia príležitosť je v roku 2013 v Rio de Janeiro.
